Beheading?

Now that the tulips have blossomed and blown away, what should I do with the stems? Anything?

I wasn't sure if I should cut them off near the base, or just let nature take its course and have them do as they may.

Good question! I was wondering the same thing myself now that we have a bunch of barren tulip stalks in our front flower bed.

Yes! Also, when are you suppose to dig up the bulbs? The fall? I have never done this, the tulips just appear every spring. I wasn't sure if eventually they would just give up...

I have been told by my personal slave/Mom that you should just leave them to die there. They need all the greeny goodness they can get. They are apparently still working some stuff out blossoms or no.

I don't touch any of the bulbs I have planted until they are sticks or truly dead. Then I will snip the brown stalks back to the ground. This year I had even more bloom then I planted so giddy up!

Katie, I don't know what you mean about digging them up? Are you transferring them somewhere? Or simply anti tulip??

Which is a valid lifestyle choice. :)

@muffy Not that there's anything wrong with that!
