Getting snubbed by shasta daisies...

My shasta daisies were planted last year and I must have somehow picked the perfect spot for them. I have a lot of shade and they do get some nice sun where they are. The plant is easily three times the size of the original plant now. To be divided next year. I love that.

They are gorgeous. Started blooming around July 2nd, glorious on July 4th, and now - July 26th - are starting to get kind of brown and are starting their graceful exit.

Jeremy (my husband) agrees that they are beautiful flowers, but feels offended that they always have their backs to us. Kind of rude he says. Of course, the sun is in the other direction and I do point this out to him. It's pretty funny to try to personalize it and think that they may actually be snubbing us and all of our rushing around.

Wow - what interesting pictures. The whites of the flowers have a nice blown-out quality that give it an otherworldly look. Very nice!

Thanks!
Things wives hate
We started some shasta daisies from seed back in, oh, February?

At this point, they're potted up, sitting nicely on the front stoop, looking exactly like a lettuce.

Not a flower or bud to be seen.

So, I'm jealous of your ethereal, if moody, daisies.

Good job!

Well I bought mine from a nursery already in bloom last summer so your task is much harder. Perhaps when they get into the ground? None of the things I started from seed this winter are likely to bloom this year. They are growing well, but no sign of any kind of flowering. So, I am just not going to expect any color from them until next year. Such is the life of a cold climate gardener! I did Jacob's Ladder, Coreopsis, Digitalis (Foxglove) and Oriental Poppy. Oh, except I just remembered that the Veronica I started from seed is blooming and spreading already but that is the only one.
