Today after work, I took advantage of the longer daylight hours to prep our south veggie bed for the coming transplants. We have lettuce, spinach, arugula coming first. Then radishes and peas. And then we'll see about what's next.
First I chopped all the weeds up by the roots with my trusty hoe and hauled away the remains. Then I turned the soil all over the bed with a hoe to a depth of about 3 or 4 inches. Next I hauled in 2 wheelbarrows full of compost and sprinkled in some Espoma Garden Tone. Gave it a good rake a few times and called it an evening's work. I'm looking forward to getting those plants in the ground!
Here's what it looked like before I started - not too shabby, but you can see someone's already snuck in and done some weeding and such. I'll have to post a picture of the whole thing now that it's completely cleaned up.
