My Morning Stroll

It was so gorgeous out this morning that I decided to take a walk around the yard to see what else was coming to life or getting bigger. Here's what I saw!

Our spinach plants are doing really well. Since we started getting this much needed rain, the leaves have gotten huge. We are going to have to have some for dinner.

Tihs is a small good smelly bush from Aaron's garden. I forget what this is called, so if you have any ideas, let me know!

The lavender in Aaron's herb garden is also making a come back. This and the other lavenders in our front yard all die out during the winter and come back in the spring. But for some reason the lavenders in the back yard stayed green all year. I think they may be a different variety. I'll have to find out what they are.

I was excited to see that bleeding heart has its first bloom! Sorry the focus on this picture is a little backwards. I really need to get a better camera...'cause my dated point and click just isn't doing it for me any more.

As you can see my plum tree blossom are fading, but my tree still has a resident lady bug. :)

I was also excited to discover that Aaron's bing cherry tree is starting to bloom.

Finally our raspberry bushes are becoming covered in leaves:

I can't wait to have fresh raspberries again! Yum!

Wow June, everything looks really nice there. I'm curious about your raspberries. We planted 3 small bushes in the middle of last summer. They're really leggy now, and not very bushy. What do you do to tend to yours?
Me
I don't really do much of anything. I plant garlic around them to keep them healthy and to deter pests. Aaron cuts them back but he cuts every stalk back halfway...where as I feel like you are suppose to leave the new stalks and cut back the old ones to the ground.

Actually looking at my organic gardening book, for summer bearing plants you do the every other method. For fall bearing plants you should cut them all the way to the ground leaving no stubs.

I remember having raspberries pretty late into the season last year. So we might have fall bearing bushes...so my picture above might not show the proper care for them.

Other than trimming them properly I'm afraid I don't have any suggestion for the legginess.
